Funabashi H. C. Andersen Park celebrated its 20th anniversary in October 2016.This Photo Library introduces rare photos from the time when the park was constructed, including the windmill that serves as the park’s symbol and the Pond of the Sun.

Funabashi invited 10 architectural experts from Denmark to reproduce the cityscape of Odense, its sister city in Denmark.。

The windmill that would serve as the symbol of Märchen Hill. It was constructed by the Danish method using vanes imported from Denmark.

Materials such as bricks for the walls of buildings and stones for stone pavements were also imported from Denmark. A rural atmosphere was thus created with lots of flowers and greenery.

The Bridge of the Sun measures about 100 m long and 13 m high above the water surface. The bridge was completely supported by the passion of the workmen who built it.

What do you think would be built here? Later, a large amount of water would be stored here to create the Pond of Sun, where people can enjoy boat rides. Small creatures would also inhabit the pond.

A Danish farmhouse in the Märchen Hill Zone. The construction work meticulously reproduced a farmhouse from the 1800s with a thatched roof, beds, a cupboard, farming tools, and the like.
